Source number 4
Another source that was really helpful is this Journal written by Allen R. Sanderson and John J. Siegfried. In the article The case for Paying College Athletes, gives a thorough explanation of the idea of paying college athletes. The main point of the article is why and how NCAA athletes should be paid a salary. The article names famous coaches such as Nick Saban, and John Calapari and how they make millions of dollars yearly. While the coaches do hard work the players are putting their entire life on trying to become successful athletes. This source is useful because it displays how the college sports system is very wrong. The players make absolutely no income and one of the biggest reasons athletes try to become professional is for economical reasons. I can use this source for my research paper by helping answer the big picture question which is what makes college basketball dramatic. Also this paper helps shape my argument because in my paper I discuss a situation where recently a player complained that some nights he has to go hungry even after a game because of his financial situation even though he is a star player. Soon after the NCAA released a new rule that guarantees all NCAA athletes will get a meal plan for free. This article just helps me generate many new points to help answer my topic question. Also the article helped me back up these topics by giving great quotes.
Source Number 3
One of the main points in my research paper is choking under pressure. Many college basketball players choke under pressure because they are literally playing to get a job as a professional basketball player. In the journal: On the fragility of skilled performance: What governs choking under pressure, by Beilock, Sian L he examples difference scenarios that show how and why people start to choke under pressure. The point of this article is to show the researches experiments which explain why people start to choke. This source directly correlates with my research paper because one of the things a college basketball player goes through is pressure. Athletes in their heads always think about what is going to happen if I miss this shot. They ask themselves will I never make it to the NBA, will I lose my scholarship? This source helps me be by proving my point that people do definitely break under pressure. Also the research that was conducted proves that if your experienced in what you do the less pressure there will be. This will help me because college kids have never been in a situation where if they play bad their chance of becoming professional basketball players might be over. Or even if they do become professionals 1 missed shot can become the difference of making 500,000 dollars a year or 6 million dollars a year. This will help me prove that college basketball is in fact dramatic and melodramatic.

Source for Research Paper
I was having trouble looking for sources because I felt like my topic was something that happened recently. The NFL Super Bowl took place on February 1st 2015, which is only exactly two months ago. After doing some research I realized that my source didn't necessarily have to be on how media effected this Super Bowl, but on how media in general has a immense impact in the way we perceive things. In the journal Studies: An Irish Quarterly Review, Dardis states "With the advent of a greater number of media outlets, the rise in investigative journalism, and the hardening of media's self-understanding as moral watchdogs in society, the stage was set for scandals to emerge" (310). Dardis is stating that because of all the media coverage we have, especially in modern era, a scandal is bound to happen and be released to the public. One of the reasons the deflate gate was such a big deal is because of the amount of media coverage we have today. The 2015 Super Bowl drew an average of 114.4 million viewers which made it the most viewed broadcast in U.S television history (CNN.com), and I can guarantee that one of the reasons was because the scandal which made it more interesting.

Thoughts on Anker's Introduction
I was intrigued initially because 9/11 is such a heavy topic for a lot of Americans. 9/11 affected me somewhat because my mom works just a few blocks away from where the event took place. She told me the day it happened she could see the smoke and everyone screaming and panicking. I was surprised that Anker was able to convince me that this historical event was indeed the perfect melodrama. "The story was told as an epoch-shaping yet aberrant event in the otherwise continual spread of global freedom." Anker is stating that although this event was a real turning point for the United States for what would define freedom. As we discussed in class the government was able to justify our actions because Americans all felt the same pain that day. Citizens would support any decision that the government made because we all experienced the same event. "The depiction of the attacks adheres to the conventions of a genre form that portrays dramatic events through moral polarities of good and evil, overwhelmed victims, heightened affects of pain and suffering, grand gestures, astonishing feats of heroism, and the redemption of virtue." Anker statement expresses that the events that occured on 9/11 is exactly what a great melodrama is. The more I think about it, it is kind of strange how Anker makes you really question how melodramatic 9/11 really was.

Source For Research Paper
I have pretty much decided that I will do the deflate gate as my topic for my research paper. The deflate gate is a scandal where people believe The New England Patriots deflated the balls in the game before the the Super Bowl to gain a competitive advantage. The New England Patriots ended up winning that game by a large margin and probably wouldn't have effected the results at all. After the semi final game the media made a huge deal about the deflate gate which really took away from what football is all about. The media should be focused on the final game of the year, but all the talk was about how The New England Patriots might have cheated their way in to the Super Bowl. I personally was looking for a source on how the media plays a huge part in any situation, and how the media can influence our perception. Media Influence and Body Image in 8-11- Year Old Boys and Girls: A Preliminary Report on the Multidimensional Media Influence Scale by Dale L. Cusumano and J. Kevin Thompson is one of my sources that I intend to use. This article basically states how the media can play an affect on the body image of young boys and girls and change their perception. The research shows that media pressure does really change the minds of others. This source can be useful for my own research paper because it expresses how the media can control the story and how the media can influence our perception.

Potential Topics
To actually have fun while doing an assignment I was thinking about topics that I actually enjoy writing/talking about. My favorite T.V show of all time is the USA original series Suits. On the run from a drug deal gone bad, Mike Ross, a brilliant college-dropout, finds himself a job working with Harvey Specter, one of New York City's best lawyers (IMBd). Something I could possibly focus on would be the unexpected turn of events that occur throughout the series. Another thing I could focus on would be an anime called Your lie in April, which is a series about a young boy that starts to come of age. This series would be an interesting topic because it is very unique in the fact that it is about how a girl inspires a boy to start living the world to the fullest. Another topic that would be really interesting to write about would be the scandal that occurred during the Super Bowl. Before the Super Bowl there was a huge scandal that the team that would eventually end up winning the New England Patriots deflated some of the balls the previous game. The whole situation got so much attention that it took away from the final game. One of the main reasons the situation seemed worse then it was, is because the New England Patriots were caught cheating a few years ago. They were recording their opponents practices which is against the rules because it would give them an unfair advantage.

The Moral Occult
Within every melodrama the characters must make a decision. The decision comes down to either good vs bad, or right vs wrong. Brooks states "the domain of operative spiritual values which is both indicated within and masked by the surface of reality" (Brooks 5). Brooks is stating that the protagonist of the melodrama is always faced with a decision that changes the tides of the story. It is up the the protagonist to go with what he thinks is right, or go with what he others say. While I was watching one of my favorite TV show called "Suits", the main character Mike Ross is always faced with the decision to either protect his client who has usually done something wrong, or fight for what he believes which is helping the weak. Although it is Mike's duty to win the case for his client he sometimes tunnel visions which causes him to do what will make him feel better about himself.
